Shamberg Project

The draft plan for the long range management of the Shamberg property is now available at the Town Office and online at ShambergLRMP.htmll.  The time table for consideration and implementation of the plan can be viewed there as well.

Former 'Shamberg property' now a town forest

Residents and visitors to the Town of Londonderry may now enjoy outdoor recreation in what amounts to a Town Forest and Wildlife area.

The former Shamberg property was given to the Town in 2005.

One hundred acres in size, it is a treasure trove of native plants, animals, birds and trees, all thriving on what was once pastureland. .

Old logging roads make most of the land accessible for hiking with the exception of a large beaver pond that occupies a central low-lying area.

This pond with its standing, dead trees has become a small Great Blue Heron rookery, which the Town is hoping to encourage and protect.

To this end the area around the nests is restricted during the Heron nesting period, which lasts from the middle of March until early August.

The Town asks that visitors to the property during this time respect the signs that have been placed where intrusion will force the Herons to abandon their nests
